Cryo-EM Facility Manager

SUNY, Stony Brook University is seeking a talented, motivated and highly interactive individual to manage our cryo-EM facility. The facility has a Thermo Fisher Scientific, 200kV Talos Arctica scope with a Falcon 3EC direct electron detector, along with all standard equipment for sample preparation. Successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the facility, general lab maintenance, sample preparation, user training, and managing supplies and deliveries, scheduling and billing, and facilities infrastructure for the instruments. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with internal users and external researchers in cryo-EM-focused research projects. The candidate will also help support resource development and the development of grant applications for funding of these platforms.

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Engineering, Physics, Biological Sciences, Material Sciences or a related field of science. Two (2) years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of electron microscopes and sample preparation. Experience in TEM/ cryo-EM

Preferred Qualifications:

Post graduate degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Engineering, Physics, Biological Sciences, Material Sciences or a related field of science. Experience computational image processing. Experience with teaching complex information to scientists.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the facility, general lab maintenance, sample preparation, user training, and managing supplies deliveries, scheduling and billing, and facilities infrastructure for the instruments. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with internal users and external researchers with prior approval from supervisors in cryo-EM-focused research projects. The candidate will also help support resource development and the development of grant applications for funding of these platforms. They will have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Duties include:

· Maintain the instruments and ensure smooth operation of the facility, including managing facility inventory.

· Scheduling, billing and training new users

· Assist in data collection and data analysis.

· Assist with teaching/scientific demonstrations, manuscript writing and grant applications.

· Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
