Application deadline: 07 Apr 2013

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The High Throughput Crystallization Laboratory (HTX Lab) of the EMBL Grenoble Outstation is looking for a Software Developer to contribute to the Crystallization Information Management System (CRIMS) project. The HTX lab is one of the largest platforms for automated macromolecular crystallization screening in Europe and is offering services through the EC-funded projects P-CUBE and BioStruct-X. The HTX lab is actively involved in the development of new technologies and software resources for macromolecular crystallization.

CRIMS is a web-based laboratory information management system designed to support activities associated to automated, high throughput crystallization screening of biological molecules. It comprises interfaces for the design and evaluation of experiments, data tracking and integration with different robotic equipment and provides real-time access to results along with all the experimental parameters. CRIMS is currently supporting high throughput screening activities at three EMBL sites (Heidelberg, Hamburg and Grenoble) and has been licensed to a number of other laboratories in Europe.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the CRIMS Software Engineer and HTX lab Team and will be responsible for the development and implementation of new functionalities and user interfaces. He/she will also contribute to statistical data analysis and will provide support for installation and operation of the software at other sites.

They are looking for a motivated person with a desire to work in an international research environment. Applicants should have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience. A background in bio-computing will be highly appreciated. Candidates should have demonstrable experience with PHP, HTML, JQuery and SQL. Experience with Joomla will be appreciated as well as basic skills in system administration (Linux) and networking.
